Getting the Best from the
HG Trial Size
To experience the simplicity and speed of creating professional-
quality, high-impact graphics using Harvard Graphics (HG), follow these
suggestions:
* Print this Guide. A printed copy of this Guide lets you follow
along with examples on your own computer. To print it on your
default printer (LPT1:), just press F9 now.
* View the Screenshow. We created all the charts in the Screenshow
with HG. HG's Screenshow automatically displays each chart on
your computer's screen in a complete desktop presentation. To
view the Screenshow, return to the Trial Size menu and type SHOW.
* Print or plot a sample chart. To see the exceptional quality of
text and graphics you can get on your own output device, print or
plot a sample chart from the Trial Size. You can't print or plot
charts you create with the HG Trial Size, but the Trial Size
contains several sample charts you can print or plot -- as long as
you don't alter them in any way. (You can also record charts on a
Polaroid Palette, PalettePlus, or PTI ImageMaker film recorder.)
Page 1
* Follow the examples in this Guide. They're short and simple, but
they demonstrate the ease of creating two of the most commonly
used charts and making enhancements to them, adjusting a chart's
annotations, and importing a Lotus graph.
* Use the on-screen Help. If you need help using one of HG's
features, press F1. On-screen Help is available whenever you see
F1-Help
in the lower left corner of the screen.
* Experiment with your own words and data to create text or graph
charts. Add your own custom touches by drawing or changing
options. The area at the bottom of the HG screen indicates which
features are available at every step of the way. Try a few or try
them all.
* Display your charts often by pressing F2 after you make a change
or addition. (When you display a chart you've created, the HG
Trial Size places a banner across it. Of course, the
full-featured version of HG doesn't.) Then, press any key to
return to what you were doing.

* Built-in drawing features.
* Efficient production tools like templates and macros.
* Screenshow for dynamic desktop presentations on your computer.
* Automatic design options and symbol libraries to customize graphs
and charts quickly.
HG also reads Lotus 1-2-3 and Symphony graphs and data directly; reads
ASCII and delimited ASCII files; exports charts for PFS:Professional

Limitations of the Trial Size
Using the HG Trial Size, you can experience the simplicity and ease of
creating professional-quality charts. Although you can use most of the
features offered in the actual Harvard Graphics product, a few features
are not available on the Trial Size:
* Printing or plotting charts you create. You can print or plot any
sample Trial Size chart (although you can't print or plot a sample
chart if you've modified it). You can't print or plot any chart
you create yourself. In addition, when you display your own
charts on your computer screen, the HG Trial Size places a banner
across the chart. (Of course, the full-featured version of HG
doesn't do this.)
* Saving charts and templates. You can't save any chart or template
on disk with the HG Trial Size.
* Importing ASCII and delimited ASCII files; getting Harvard
Presentation Graphics charts; getting PFS:Professional Plan
charts; getting PFS:GRAPH charts; exporting charts for
PFS:Professional Write; and exporting charts as CGM Metafiles.

* Using devices supported through the Virtual Device Interface
(VDI).
* Creating organization charts.
* Selecting fonts. You are limited to one font (Executive).
* Using symbols. The HG Trial Size doesn't include symbols.
* Using macros. The HG Trial Size doesn't include the MACRO program.
